New Webflow Features for 2023 – Webflow Conf Recap
Level:
Here is a list of new features and updates that Webflow presented at Webflow Conf 2022.
These new Webflow features will be available next year:
components
- Components are elements that you build once and can then reuse anywhere on the page. Example: navigation or footer.
- Components replace symbols.
- Individual elements in components can now be hidden or shown via the settings.
- As a result, many different scenarios can be created, which still all use the same components.
- The great thing about it is: As soon as an element is set to “hidden”, it is not simply set to “display none”, but is actually not rendered in published code.
- It's a shame: Unfortunately, the show/hide function does not (yet) work on various breakpoints.
- I would like the “Conditional Visibility” function in Collection List to also be optimized in this direction, and filters that you set would really not be rendered in the code.
- Components can also be linked to CMS data.
- Texts in components can also be rewritten directly in the canvas with a double click. You don't always have to go through the settings first. You already know this from layout programs such as Sketch, for example.
Variable fonts
- Advantage: You only have to load a file into the project and have virtually all font weights available.
- Faster charging time
- Variable fonts can also be animated in Webflow interactions or with hover effects.
DevLink
- Components built in Webflow can be integrated into a local React environment.
- Designers and programmers can thus work side by side.
- Changes are synchronized live.
- Animations are also included.
Multilingualism directly in Webflow
- Many have worked with Weglot so far, that could change in 2023, as Webflow has introduced its own language changer function.
- CMS content can be translated individually.
- The special thing compared to other translation tools: for each language, a separate structure can be created in the designer and translations are also written directly in the Webflow Designer. In this way, other images, etc. can also be displayed based on the location.
- However, external platforms such as Weglot can also be connected directly to Webflow via an API, which allows you to continue using this service, but which is then better integrated into Webflow or can even be edited directly there. I don't know whether that will be needed at some point.
Multiple designers can work on a project at the same time
- There is now a guest role. You can invite designers and editors to join a Webflow project (at no extra cost). Good for freelancers who should only work on one project with a customer account.
- Several designers can work on different sub-pages in a project at the same time and then merge the changes and structure later. They call this “page branching.”
- Unfortunately only available for Enterprise customers at the moment.
Webflow Marketplace
Libraries
- From now on, the Webflow marketplace brings together several areas: templates, libraries, apps, cloneables and Webflow experts.
- External libraries with a number of ready-made components, such as the “Relume Library”, can now be integrated directly into Webflow. This means that you no longer have to switch back and forth between two websites and can access them all directly in the designer. Awesome!
apps
- Webflow Apps: The modern version of WordPress plugins a la Apple style. However, not all possible extensions can simply be added. Apps are controlled and reviewed by the Webflow team. Just like in the Apple App Store. This of course avoids something like update chaos in Wordpress, where there is virtually no documentation or guidelines that you have to follow as to how a plugin must be structured. That is now different here with the Webflow apps.
- Developers can now write their own apps and submit them to Webflow.
- The next logical step for me: Not only templates, but also cloneables and libraries can be sold via the marketplace.
Other minor updates
- Enterprise users can now create more than 100,000 CMS items.
- Webflow eCommerce Plus users can now create 5000 items instead of 1000. And e-commerce advanced users 15,000 elements instead of 3000.
- The Webflow API has been completely redesigned and provided with many new connectivity options.
The full list of updates You can also read it again on the Webflow blog.
