Webflow AI – First Impressions & Thoughts
Yesterday, Webflow officially announced Webflow AI. Over the next weeks and months, the feature will enter beta testing and gradually roll out. The community is buzzing with anticipation — and I took a closer look at the first demos.
What Does Webflow AI Offer?
Webflow AI is designed to support designers and speed up workflows with features like:
- AI Co-Pilot: Create elements via prompt (e.g., “Pricing card with 5 features at €10/month”).
- Instant help inside the Designer: Contextual tips and how-tos directly in Webflow’s interface.
- Translations: Instantly translate text into other languages — highly relevant with Webflow’s upcoming native multi-language support.
- SEO & Content: Automatically generate or adjust alt texts, metadata, and content.
- Assets & Images: Generate images from text prompts (likely via external integrations).
- Code generation: Insert custom code via prompts.
- AI-powered templates: Build full page structures based on a short business description.
My Take
Many of these features sound useful — especially for repetitive, time-consuming tasks like SEO settings, dummy content, or translations. With features like automated styling or AI-generated layouts, I’m more cautious: the demos look promising, but I’m curious how smooth this will be in real-world projects.
The key focus seems to be on efficiency: fewer clicks, less copy-paste, and faster content creation. Still, it remains to be seen whether this is more than a marketing move to ride the current AI wave.
Criticism & Wishlist
Alongside the excitement, there are some concerns:
- Several core features like Logic, Memberships, or basic UX improvements have been in beta for months.
- The community has been asking for simple things — like proper SVG support, saving gradients, or improved CMS features.
- My hope is that Webflow doesn’t prioritize flashy AI features at the expense of foundational updates.
Conclusion
Webflow AI is an exciting step that could simplify workflows and remove some of the tedious parts of web design. Whether it becomes a real game-changer will depend on how well it’s integrated in practice — and whether Webflow continues to tackle the “basics” that the community has been waiting for.
